Johan Ahn was born in Korea, then moved to Belgium with his family at the age of 8 where he lived for 17 years, doing Belgian stuff (but also studying advertising and music). He came back to Korea to be a songwriter. He wrote a lot of songs that never got published or sold. But he was very active in the experimental improv music scene in Seoul for a quite long time. After working at a TV station as a co-producer, and composing a few soundtracks for documentaries, he moved to Gwangju to co-found and curate Salt Art Gallery.
About the performance.
2 art short films (“Organism” by Hilary Harris and “Moving Illustrations of Machines” by Jeremy Solterbeck) will be shown without their original soundtracks, and the performer will improvise a soundtrack in real time. 2 or 3 short music pieces will be played without any video, they will be personal improvisations by the performer. The whole performance/concert will last a little less than 50 minutes.
안 요한은 한국에서 태어나 7살 때 벨기에로 이민했다. 그곳에서 17년 동안 ‘벨기에 짓’을 하며 살았다 (광고와 음악을 전공하기도 했다). 한국에서 송라이터가 되기 위해 귀국했다. 한번도 출판되거나 팔리지 않은 곡을 많이 작곡했다. 그래도 서울 즉흥 실험음악씬에서 오랫동안 활동했다. 방송국에서 조연출 일이나 다큐멘터리 음악들을 작곡한 뒤, 광주로 이동해 솔트 예술갤러리에서 큐레이터로 활동하고 있다.
퍼포먼스에 대하여.
예 술 단편영화 2개 (Hilary Harris의 “Organism”, Jeremy Solterbeck의 “Moving Illustrations of Machines”)를 상영한다. 원본의 사운드트랙 없이 상영한다. 퍼포머는 영상에 맞추어 실시간으로 즉흥음악을 연주한다. 2-3개의 짧은 곡을 영상 없이 연주한다. 개인적인 즉흥음악이다. 이 모든 퍼포먼스/공연은 50분 이하로 진행된다.
