Monica Nickolai is a writer and multi-media installation artist interested in language and storytelling. Born in the U.S., Nickolai received her MFA in writing from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been displayed in a satellite space of the Richard Gray Gallery in the John Hancock Building, in the collection of former Mayor Richard Daley, in the collaborative public artwork Project Cabrini Green, and in The Chicago Torture Justice Memorials Project at SAIC. She collaborated with classmates to create Public Light and Space, an exhibition with a catalog that won a gold award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. She also won The World Less Traveled Grant to Japan to research her illustrated novel, currently in progress.
